Ratnagiri, 24th August 2021: Narayan Rane, currently serving as Union Minister for micro, small and medium Enterprises was arrested today over his comment on slapping Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Rane had claimed that Uddhav was really ignorant of year of India’s Independence.

Ratnagiri Superintendent of police had reached to arrest Narayan Rane, but Rane refused to leave the room as police did not have an arrest warrant or any other official documents for action. However Ratnagiri police took Rane into custody from Sangameshwar in Ratnagiri.

Nilesh Rane and his supporters tried to block the vehicle. But a large police force was already stationed there. Finally, the police took Rane and left.

The Ratnagiri sessions court had rejected his anticipatory bail application in this matter. Rane has approached the Bombay High Court, seeking protection from arrest, after two FIRs were filed against him over his remarks. The two FIRs were registered in Pune on Tuesday, and the other one in Nashik.

However, the court directed the counsel to file the petition after conducting due process and immediately refused the hearing. This paved a way for his arrest.

What exactly is Narayan Rane’s comment?

During his Jan Ashirwad Yatra in adjoining Raigad district, Rane had said, “It is shameful that the chief minister does not know the year of our Independence. He leaned back to enquire about the count of years of independence during his speech. Had I been there, I would have given (him) a tight slap,” news agency PTI reported.
