Nashik: NTKMA Reviews Monsoon-Ready Tent City Plans for Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027
Nashik, 12th February 2026: The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) on Wednesday held a follow-up meeting with tent vendors and technical stakeholders to finalise climate-resilient planning for the Tent City and Sadhugram infrastructure ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027.
The meeting, chaired by NTKMA Commissioner Shekhar Singh, built on consultations held in January and focused on addressing technical concerns related to monsoon conditions, utility safety and structural stability. NTKMA Additional Commissioner Saureesh Sahay, Nashik Municipal Corporation City Engineer Sanjay Agarwal, NTKMA Chief Officer Amol Chaudhary, Tehsildar Yogesh Chandre, other officials and vendor representatives attended the meeting.
Officials said the objective was to integrate lessons from previous Kumbh Melas and develop robust standards for temporary infrastructure in densely populated and rain-prone areas.
Vendors were asked to present weather-protection techniques that have proven effective at earlier events. Discussions covered the use of waterproof tent materials, advanced seam technologies, reinforced anchoring systems for high-wind conditions, and features such as raised flooring, double roofing, storm flaps and covered access pathways.
The meeting also reviewed measures to prevent seepage and leakage at fabric joints and ground interfaces. Site grading and stormwater drainage around tent clusters were discussed to reduce the risk of waterlogging during continuous rainfall.
On electrification, emphasis was placed on proper earthing, protecting distribution panels from rain exposure, recommended IP ratings for outdoor cables and sockets, and establishing an emergency response protocol for electrical faults.
Water supply safety was another key agenda item. Participants deliberated on preventing pipe joint failures during heavy rain, ensuring proper drainage around water points, installing backflow prevention devices and preparing contingency plans for pipe bursts.
Certain sections of the Tent City are expected to include bamboo-based structures. Vendors were advised to ensure load stability and weather resilience in their designs.
NTKMA Commissioner Shekhar Singh said the authority aims to eliminate past gaps and ensure uninterrupted services during the monsoon-period Mela. “Safety, structural stability and service continuity will guide all Tent City standards,” he said.
