New Delhi, 4th April 2026: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani said that the NCERT books, especially for Class 9, are being checked thoroughly before release to prevent any strong public reaction.

This decision comes after a recent issue with a Class 8 Social Science textbook. The book included a chapter on “corruption in the judiciary,” which led to criticism. The Supreme Court of India took notice of the matter on its own and ordered the book to be withdrawn, saying the content was inappropriate.

To handle the situation, a review panel has been set up. It includes experts like K. K. Venugopal, Indu Malhotra, and Aniruddha Bose. They will study the controversial chapter and help ensure that future textbooks are suitable.

Saklani explained that making new textbooks is a complex process. Around 4,000 people are involved, and many discussions take place before the final version is ready. He added that some problems are normal when new books are introduced.

The new textbooks are based on the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework 2023. Books for Classes 1 to 8 have already been released, while Class 9 books are expected soon.

NCERT is also trying to make education more focused on Indian ideas and languages. Overall, the organisation is taking extra care to make sure the new textbooks are accurate and do not create unnecessary issues.
