NCW Slams Ullu App for Promoting Vulgarity, Summons CEO and Host Over Coercive Obscene Content
New Delhi, 2nd May 2025: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo moto cognizance of deeply disturbing media reports and viral video content from Ullu App’s latest web show House Arrest. A short clip from the show, dated April 29, 2025, has gone viral, showing the host, Ajaz Khan, coercing female participants into enacting private, intimate positions on camera — despite their visible discomfort and clear refusal. The contestants were reportedly further asked to undress and perform obscene acts on-screen.
This kind of vulgar content not only violates the dignity of women but also sets an extremely regressive and damaging precedent for online entertainment. It disregards the fundamental principles of consent, promotes sexual coercion under the guise of entertainment, and fails to follow any age-appropriate censorship guidelines. Such content normalizes the exploitation of women, dangerously blurring the lines between entertainment and abuse.
The Commission observes that the nature of these acts, if found to be true, attracts serious penal provisions under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000. Taking the matter with utmost seriousness, the NCW has issued notices to Vibhu Agarwal, CEO of Ullu App, and Ajaz Khan to appear before the Commission on May 9, 2025.
It may be recalled that the Commission had earlier also taken a strong stand in the matter concerning content creator Ranveer Allahbadia, emphasizing that media personalities must be held accountable for content that objectifies or trivializes women’s dignity.
Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has reiterated that any media content that promotes misogyny, coerces women into compromising situations, or disregards ethical boundaries will not be tolerated.
The NCW has urged all media and digital platforms to exercise social responsibility and ensure their content aligns with the law, decency, and respect for women.
