USA, 2nd July 2023: Neeraj Chopra, the Olympic champion, demonstrated his exceptional form by making a remarkable comeback after a one-month injury lay-off to secure the first position in the Lausanne leg of the Diamond League. This victory marked his second consecutive win of the season in this esteemed one-day meeting series, held on Friday.

Despite suffering a muscle strain during training last month, which caused him to miss three significant events, the 25-year-old Chopra made a remarkable comeback, marked by triumph and success. He clinched the Diamond League title with an impressive throw of 87.66m in the fifth round. Chopra’s performance commenced with a foul, succeeded by remarkable throws measuring 83.52m and 85.04m consecutively. He experienced another foul in the fourth round before achieving his winning throw of 87.66m. His final attempt yielded a distance of 84.15m.

Julian Weber, a talented athlete hailing from Germany, showcased his skills and secured an impressive second position in the competition. His exceptional throw measured an impressive 87.03m, solidifying his position among the top contenders. Meanwhile, Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic demonstrated his prowess and claimed the third spot with a remarkable throw of 86.13m.

It is worth mentioning that Chopra, the renowned athlete, had previously triumphed in the Lausanne’s leg in August of the preceding year, securing his first Diamond League title. Building on his success, he continued to excel and emerged victorious in the grand finale of the Diamond League, ultimately earning the prestigious Diamond League trophy a month later. Earlier this season, the Indian superstar had emerged victorious in the season-opening Diamond League meeting in Doha on May 5, recording a throw of 88.67m.

Chopra’s personal best stands at an impressive 89.94m. India’s Murali Sreeshankar settled for fifth place in the men’s long jump event, delivering a subpar jump of 7.88 meters during the third round. The 24-year-old Sreeshankar had previously secured the third spot in the Paris’s leg on June 9, marking his first Diamond League podium. During the National Inter-State Championships in Bhubaneswar earlier this month, he recorded a career-best jump of 8.41m.
