Bengaluru, 25th June 2026: A 20-year-old engineering student from Karnataka has secured a Rs 72.3 lakh per annum job offer from global aerospace and defence company Rolls-Royce after initially missing out on an MBBS seat through the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

Rithuparna KS, a native of Koduru village in Karnataka’s Thirthahalli taluk, had aspired to pursue medicine but was unable to secure admission to a government medical college. She later enrolled in the Robotics and Automation Engineering programme at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management.

During her course, Rithuparna participated in several technical projects and competitions, including initiatives aimed at developing solutions for the agriculture sector. Her academic performance also earned her an internship opportunity with Rolls-Royce’s Jet Engine Manufacturing Division.

According to reports, the recruitment process lasted nearly eight months and involved multiple rounds of assessments and interviews. She eventually received a pre-placement offer from the company with an annual package of Rs 72.3 lakh.

Rithuparna is expected to join Rolls-Royce’s Texas unit following the completion of her studies.

Her achievement has drawn attention online, particularly because of her transition from aspiring to study medicine to securing one of the highest campus placements offered to an engineering student in the country this year.

The development comes at a time when thousands of students across India are awaiting admissions following the declaration of NEET results and weighing alternative career options after failing to secure seats in medical colleges.
