Pune Metro Staff Recover Gold Jewellery and Wallet in Two Separate Incidents, Return Valuables Within Minutes
Pune, 25th June 2026: Pune Metro once again demonstrated its commitment to passenger safety and customer service by successfully tracing and returning valuable belongings lost by commuters in two separate incidents on Thursday. The swift action of metro personnel, supported by an advanced CCTV surveillance system and seamless communication through the TETRA network, helped recover gold jewellery and a wallet within a short span of time.
Gold Jewellery Worth 2.5 Tolas Recovered and Returned
In the first incident, a black bag containing approximately 2.5 tolas of gold jewellery and other valuables was mistakenly exchanged with a similar-looking bag during a passenger’s metro journey.
The matter came to light when Deepak Hajare, Security Supervisor at Swargate Metro Station, informed the Security Control Room that passenger Amruta Rajesh Rathod’s bag had been accidentally swapped with another commuter’s bag. Recognising the seriousness of the situation, Senior Deputy General Manager (Security) Kulkarni directed the security team to initiate an immediate search operation.
A detailed review of CCTV footage at Pune Railway Station Metro Station revealed that the bags had been exchanged during baggage screening. Further investigation showed that the other passenger, identified as Asmita, had travelled towards Ramwadi and alighted at Kalyani Nagar Metro Station.
Using CCTV surveillance, metro officials later tracked Asmita returning to Pune Railway Station Metro Station from Kalyani Nagar. Acting swiftly, PRS Supervisor Dashrath Munjal located her near the scanning area. Security Manager Atul Datta contacted her and verified the contents of the bag.
The entire operation was completed within 30 minutes. Both passengers were called to the Station Controller’s Office at Pune Railway Station Metro Station, where their respective bags were safely handed over at 6:30 pm.
The recovery operation was carried out under the guidance of Security Manager Atul Datta, with support from Supervisors Vijay Bhosale and Hanuman Kale, and CCTV Operator Bharat Bhoir.
Wallet Recovered and Returned in 19 Minutes
In another incident, a passenger accidentally left a wallet at the Ticket Office Machine (TOM) counter at Ramwadi Metro Station at around 6:32 am. The wallet was inadvertently picked up by another passenger.
After reaching the platform, the owner realised the wallet was missing and immediately informed a Customer Facilitation Assistant (CFA). The CFA alerted the Station Controller at 6:41 am.
The Station Controller promptly reviewed CCTV footage and identified the passenger who had taken the wallet. As the train had not yet departed, the Station Controller and a security guard boarded the train, located the passenger, and recovered the wallet.
The wallet was returned to its rightful owner at 6:51 am, just 19 minutes after it had gone missing. The passenger expressed gratitude to the metro staff for their prompt and efficient response.
The employees involved in the recovery were Station Controller Bhushan Lokhande, Security Guard Vishwas Lekawale, and Customer Facilitation Assistant Avadhut Khandwe.
Pune Metro officials said the incidents highlight the effectiveness of the metro’s surveillance systems and the dedication of its staff in ensuring passenger safety and assistance.
