NEET-UG 2024: NTA Announces Reduced Syllabus, Online Registration Opens in January
New Delhi, 17th November 2023: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is poised to announce a streamlined syllabus for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 next week. The online registration process for this entrance test, facilitating admission to undergraduate medical, dental, and allied courses, is scheduled to commence in January, with the examination slated for May 5 next year.
NEET-UG stands as one of the world’s largest entrance tests, witnessing a surge in registrations to 20.87 lakh in 2023, a notable increase of over 2 lakh compared to 2022.
In collaboration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) and after consultations with various boards that rationalized their senior secondary syllabus during the Covid pandemic, NTA has crafted the new syllabus. NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh affirmed that the forthcoming NEET-UG syllabus notification will be released next week, presenting students with a reduced syllabus. This proactive move by NTA allows students ample time, over six months, to plan and prepare for the entrance test.
Acknowledging the academic disruptions during the pandemic, various education boards, including the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), had previously trimmed the syllabus for classes IX to XII. Notably, the current class XII batch, initiated in class IX in 2020, was affected by the syllabus rationalization. However, until now, the syllabi for NEET-UG and JEE (Main) had remained unchanged.
