Pune, 13th July 2025: Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Maharashtra will introduce six new-age skill development courses from this academic year to align with evolving industry needs. Maharashtra’s Minister for Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, directed department officials and ITI principals to start one or two of these courses in each institute, tailored to local industry demands.

Lodha was speaking during a review meeting held at the Aundh ITI, attended by senior officials from the Skill Development Department, ITI principals from across Pune district, and members of various institute management committees.

“It is essential to equip ITI students with skills relevant to today’s modern and dynamic workforce,” said Minister Lodha. “We have decided to roll out new-age skill courses, and proposals submitted by ITIs to start these courses will receive immediate approval. Funding will not be an issue,” he assured.

Also present at the meeting were Chandrashekhar Dhekane, Joint Director of Vocational Training; Anupama Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of the Directorate of Skill Development; Pratibha Chavan, District Vocational Education and Training Officer; and Sachin Dhumal, Deputy Director of Aundh ITI.

Popular and Short-Term Courses Also Encouraged

Lodha emphasized that institutes should not limit themselves to just new-age courses but also consider launching popular and in-demand skill-based programs. Additionally, he suggested starting short-term courses ranging from three to six months, which can generate additional revenue and contribute to institutional growth.

Infrastructure & Staff Support Promised

To support the development of ITIs, the state government will provide funding for infrastructure upgrades, procurement of modern machinery for the new courses, and renovation of hostels. The minister also announced that every ITI principal will be assigned to only one institute to ensure focused leadership. Expert trainers will be deployed to guide the use of new machinery and equipment under the new-age courses.

“The responsibility for transforming ITIs lies equally with principals, management committees, and department officials. Through this initiative, we aim to create a highly skilled and employable workforce in Maharashtra,” Lodha said.

During the session, Minister Lodha also interacted with ITI principals and committee members, seeking suggestions and listening to the challenges they face.
