New COVID-19 Cases Rise in Maharashtra; Health Official Urges Public Not to Panic or Believe Rumors

Pune, 4th June 2025: Maharashtra has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases due to a new variant of the virus. Since January 2025, a total of 12,880 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the state, out of which 959 people have tested positive. Of these, 435 patients have recovered, and the current active case count stands at 510.
Dr. Radhakishan Pawar, the State Deputy Director of Health, stated that although the new variant has caused a rise in cases, it is not dangerous. Most new infections are mild. The health department has instructed increased testing and surveillance to keep the situation under control.
In the Pune division, which includes Pune, Satara, and Solapur districts, there are currently 167 active cases. Among these, 135 patients are recovering at home, while 32 are hospitalized. Additionally, 50 patients have fully recovered. Dr. Pawar noted a slight increase in cases over the past two weeks, attributing it partly to seasonal changes leading to more viral infections.
Dr. Pawar said, “The state government is taking the COVID situation seriously and has ordered 100% testing of all positive cases along with increased surveillance. There are rumors about a new COVID wave, but the public should not believe these rumors. The health department is fully prepared.”
He advised that anyone experiencing difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, or other severe symptoms should immediately seek medical attention. He also reassured that the new variant is mild, and despite the rise in cases, there is no need for panic.
