New Flyover, Old Problems: Pune MLAs Push for Smoother Sinhagad Road Traffic

Pune, 15th May 2025: In a bid to ease traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road, Parvati MLA and state minister Madhuri Misal, along with Khadakwasla MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, conducted an on-site review on Thursday and called on civic officials, the city traffic police, and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials to clear encroachments and expand the busy junction near the landing of the newly inaugurated flyover on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass.
Motorists frequently experience long delays after descending from the flyover, leading to mounting frustration among regular commuters. Many have demanded swift action to streamline vehicle movement and reduce daily traffic snarls in the area.
During the inspection, Minister Misal emphasized the urgency of the issue. “Initial steps have already been taken by the concerned departments,” she noted. “However, widening the junction where vehicles merge from the flyover is crucial. This will help traffic flow more smoothly, especially for those needing to turn left onto the main bypass.”
The MLAs also recommended removing illegal structures and obstacles that hinder the expansion of the road and create choke points during peak hours. Tapkir echoed the call for coordinated efforts among agencies to implement lasting solutions.
Citizens and traffic police have both pointed to the need for reengineering road infrastructure at key intersections near the bypass, particularly as vehicular pressure continues to grow due to urban expansion and increased residential developments in the surrounding areas.
