New Guidelines Issued For Riding Two-Wheelers With Children, Penalty For Flouting Rules
New Delhi, 18th February 2022: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) issued a new set of guidelines for children between the ages of nine months and four years which have to be followed when travelling by two-wheelers. There will be a penalty for flouting the guidelines.
According to the notification issued by the MORTH on February 15, 2022, these rules will apply to people riding two-wheelers with children. Children will be required to wear helmets, the speed of two-wheelers should be limited to 40 kms per hour, the notification states.
Violation of these new traffic rules can result in a fine of up to Rs 1,000 and a suspension of the driver’s licence for up to three months.
Also, safety harnesses should be lightweight, waterproof and padded, so that the children can rest comfortably. It should also be able to withstand loads up to 30 kgs.
