Newlywed Woman Dies by Suicide in Pune; In-Laws Booked for Dowry Harassment
Katraj, 10th August 2025: A newly married woman died by suicide in the Bharati Vidyapeeth area of Pune after facing sustained physical and mental abuse, as well as repeated demands from her in-laws for Rs 20 lakh.
The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Sneha Zendge, a native of Kardehali in Dakshin Solapur taluka. Sneha married Vishal Zendge in May 2024. According to police, her in-laws soon began pressuring her to bring Rs 20 lakh to start a company, subjecting her to repeated harassment when she failed to do so.
Sneha allegedly endured both physical and verbal abuse, and was treated in a degrading manner. She had previously lodged a police complaint, but later withdrew it after being persuaded by her relative, Bhausaheb Kolhal. Police say the harassment continued, leaving her under severe mental stress.
On Raksha Bandhan, August 9, 2025, when no one was at home, Sneha allegedly ended her life by hanging herself in her residence.
Based on a complaint lodged by Sneha’s family, Bharati Vidyapeeth Police have registered a case against her husband, Vishal Zendge; father-in-law, Sanjay Zendge; mother-in-law, Vithabai Zendge; brother-in-law, Vinayak Zendge; sisters-in-law, Tejashree Thite and Parmeshwar Thite; and relative, Bhausaheb Kolhal. They face charges under sections related to physical and mental harassment, as well as dowry-related offences.
Police investigations are underway.
