Pune, 10th March 2025: The Maharashtra government will implement the ‘Nipun Maharashtra Abhiyan’ to enhance the learning abilities of primary students from Classes 2 to 5. Schools have been directed to execute the action program by June 30, as per a government decision issued by the School Education Department.

Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP), the initiative prioritizes foundational literacy and numeracy, aiming for all primary school students to acquire basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills by 2026-27. The campaign emphasizes a collaborative effort involving parents, schools, teachers, society, and government agencies to strengthen students’ educational foundations.

Under the Nipun Maharashtra Abhiyan, the goal is for 100% of students in Classes 2 to 5 to achieve the expected learning outcomes. The program applies to all government and aided schools, while self-financed and unaided schools are exempt. The mission targets at least 75% of students in these classes to meet the expected learning standards. Students from Classes 6 to 8 can also participate voluntarily, and their progress in essential skills will be assessed.

As the initiative coincides with summer vacation, teachers have been instructed to ensure continuity in students’ education, especially for those lagging behind. They are expected to stay in touch with students through online and offline channels.

Teachers will assess students and report their progress through the Vidya Samiksha Kendra. Once students achieve the required learning outcomes, supervisors will conduct immediate classroom visits to recognize and appreciate students, teachers, and schools for their efforts.
