No Coupon, No Liquor in Pune says Divisional Commissioner Mhaisekar

Pune, 7 May 2020: Pune Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar said there will be a token system at liquor shops and without a token, no liquor can be purchased. The decision has been taken as people are gathering in large number and not able to maintain physical distancing at the wine shops.

Paper tokens will be given to the customers if more than 30 people are queuing outside the wine shop. They will be given a different time to come and buy liquor. Without token people cannot buy, Mhaisekar informed. If the shops are found violating the rules, their license will be suspended for 10 days.

Earlier Pune Police had registered FIRs against nine liquor shops in for not following the guidelines given while allowing the opening of liquor shops during the lockdown. Also, it has made clear that no wine shop will be allowed to open within 500 meters of a containment zone, where many Coronavirus patients have been detected. Liquor shops are allowed to open from 10 am to 6 pm.

Among the shops against which cases were registered, two of them are located under the jurisdiction of Vishrambaug and Chandan Nagar police station and seven shops are in limits of Hadapsar police station. Terms and conditions such as social distance, wearing of masks were given while giving permission, police said.

In Hadapsar, FIRs have been filed against Rohit Wines near Shani Mandir, MR Wines in Sasanenagar, Asian Wines near Akashwani, SS Ghule Wines at Raskar Chowk, Ajantha Wines at Gadital, and Rajdhani Wines, Kunal Wines. They have been charged for putting people’s lives in danger, said senior police inspector Ramesh Sathe, in-charge of Hadapsar police station.
