No Extra Fees for Mark Sheets, Leaving Certificates: Pune Education Officials Issue Strict Order
Pune, 20th January 2026: The education department has issued clear and firm instructions to schools and colleges, warning them against demanding any illegal fees from students for issuing school leaving certificates and mark sheets. Authorities have said that strict administrative action will be taken against institutions found violating these orders.
The directive was issued by the office of the Deputy Director of Education (Divisional), Pune Division. Deputy Director of Education Ganpat Shankarrao More has sent a written circular to all headmasters and principals in Pune, Ahilyanagar and Solapur districts, instructing them to ensure that students are not charged any unauthorised amount while collecting their original academic documents.
The move follows a complaint filed by Arjun Medankar, Executive President of the Alandi Janhit Foundation, who alleged that several schools were financially exploiting students by demanding money for issuing certificates. Taking serious note of the complaint, the education department decided to intervene.
According to a circular issued by the Directorate of Education on June 5, 2025, charging any extra fee for providing original documents such as school leaving certificates and mark sheets is illegal. The department has warned that if any such cases are reprted or if complaints are received, strict action will be taken against the concerned institutions and the responsible officials.
The decision is expected to bring relief to students and parents and put an end to arbitrary practices by educational institutions in the region.
