Viman Nagar, 12th February 2025: Female passengers at Pune’s Lohegaon International Airport have raised concerns over the lack of sanitary napkin vending and disposal machines in the newly inaugurated terminal. With nearly 80% of flights now operating from the new terminal, passengers are urging the airport authorities to address the issue, citing its impact on women’s health and hygiene.

In response to these concerns, the airport administration has assured that the machines will soon be installed in the women’s restrooms at the new terminal. Santosh Dhoke, Director of Pune International Airport, confirmed the development, stating, “We will soon install around 20 to 22 sanitary napkin vending machines along with an equal number of disposal units in the women’s toilets at the new terminal.”

The old terminal, which is currently undergoing redevelopment, was equipped with sanitary napkin vending machines in its restrooms. However, passengers have pointed out that no such facility exists in the new terminal, leading to growing discomfort and inconvenience for female travelers.

Under the ‘Disha’ project, various passenger-friendly initiatives are planned for the airport, and there have been suggestions to incorporate these vending machines as part of the project. While authorities have now promised a resolution, passengers are awaiting swift action to ensure basic hygiene facilities are in place.
