Pune, 20th February 2024: The Land Records Department is gearing up to include data on civil court cases related to land in both urban and rural areas. This initiative aims to empower potential buyers with information about any legal disputes associated with the land they intend to purchase.

An official from the Land Records Department revealed that citizens will soon have the ability to enter survey numbers or 7/12 extract details to check for ongoing legal disputes. The ongoing process involves linking and uploading data related to both current and past cases to ensure a comprehensive area-wise search facility.

“We have initiated the process and are actively uploading information on ongoing cases. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to update data related to historical cases. The ultimate goal is to provide an effective and precise area-wise search facility,” stated a senior officer from the Land Records Department.

Settlement Commissioner N K Sudhanshu highlighted that Maharashtra is among the few states pioneering this initiative, with the process commencing last year and continuous efforts to enhance the facility. The integration of civil cases with the department’s website is being facilitated with support from the National Informatics Centre.

Citizen activist Shrikant Joshi expressed optimism about the online availability of legal case information, emphasizing its significance for potential buyers. He stated, “If the cases are visible on the website, it will be of immense help for the prospective buyers. The process ensures better transparency. However, public awareness about such facilities should be ensured.”

This move aligns with the Union government’s directive to states to initiate the linking process, aiming to curb dubious transactions and minimize legal disputes in land dealings.
