Pune, 15th January 2022: Children in the Pune district have been hit hard by Corona infection. As a result, the number of malnourished children has increased in the last six months.
At present, there are 2,040 malnourished children in the district. The same number was 660 in July 2021. As a result, the number of malnourished children has tripled in just six months since July.
Out of the total malnourished children, 384 children are severely malnourished and 1,656 children are moderately malnourished. The highest number of 82 severely malnourished children is in Khed taluka and the lowest number of eight children is in Purandar taluka. Haveli taluka ranks first among the severely malnourished children in the district. A total of 225 children in this taluka are severely malnourished.
Zilla Parishad’s Women and Child Welfare Department conducted a survey of children in the age group of zero to six in Anganwadis in the district by the end of December 2021. The report of this survey was released on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in addition to the corona infection, oil and pulses, which have been reduced in the diet, have been linked to the increase in the number of malnourished children.

According to the report, a total of 660 children were found to be malnourished in the Pune district. At that time, only 81 children were found to be severely malnourished. That number has now risen to 384 after six months. As a result, the number of these children has increased by 303.
The July report found that 579 children were severely malnourished. That number is now 1,656. As a result, the number of severely malnourished children has also increased by 1,077.
