Mumbai, 30th November 2024: The political uncertainty over the formation of the Maharashtra government has ended as the oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for December 5. BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule confirmed that the ceremony will take place at 5 PM at Azad Maidan, Mumbai, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The voting for the assembly elections was held on November 20, and results were declared on November 23. The Mahayuti alliance secured a landslide victory, winning 235 of the 288 assembly seats, ensuring a clear majority. However, despite this decisive mandate, the formation of the government faced delays due to ongoing discussions over key leadership roles and ministerial portfolios among the alliance partners.

The delay in government formation has been attributed to the competition for the Chief Minister’s post and other crucial cabinet positions. A three-hour meeting was held at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence in New Delhi on Thursday night to finalize the leadership structure of the grand alliance.

During the meeting, it was confirmed that Devendra Fadnavis would serve as the Chief Minister. However, disagreements over demands made by caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde have reportedly caused further delays.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar revealed today that Maharashtra would have one Chief Minister from the BJP and two Deputy Chief Ministers representing the other two major alliance partners. While the BJP has settled on Fadnavis as their choice for the Chief Minister’s position, the distribution of ministerial portfolios among alliance members remains under negotiation.

The delay in electing the legislative leader and forming the government has caused unease among BJP MLAs, who have been eagerly awaiting the new cabinet. Despite the Mahayuti’s unprecedented mandate, the inability to quickly finalize the leadership structure has drawn criticism.

The swearing-in ceremony is set to be a grand event, with several senior leaders and dignitaries in attendance. The BJP has expressed confidence in resolving all outstanding issues ahead of the ceremony, ensuring a smooth transition to governance.

The political landscape in Maharashtra is poised for a new chapter as the Mahayuti government prepares to take charge. All eyes are now on December 5, when the state’s leadership will officially assume its duties in the presence of the country’s top leadership.
