Pune, 13th April 2023: The NCP has raised objections to a rap song titled Sultanat, which was filmed at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), alleging that it contains offensive words and the university had given permission for the filming.

The song features the use of liquor, pistols, and swords, and was filmed against the backdrop and interiors of the main building of the university.

NCP General Secretary Aakash Zambare Patil has lodged a written complaint with the Vice-Chancellor, condemning the use of abusive language and obscenity in the song.

While acknowledging the importance of providing a platform for talent in Pune, Patil expressed concern that the use of offensive language and obscenity in the song was unacceptable, especially since it was filmed at a revered institution of learning.

In response to the allegations, SPPU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Karbhari Kale stated that the university had not given permission for the filming of any such song.

SPPU registrar Dr Prafulla Pawar said, “It has come to our attention that some persons have created an offensive video using footage taken on the premises of the main building, without the university’s permission. Filming or photographing in an offensive manner on the university’s premises without permission is a serious matter. The university strongly condemns such actions. A case has been filed with the Chaturshrungi police station, and appropriate measures will be taken against those responsible.”
