Pune, 01 April 2026: More than 100 flat buyers from Vertillas Co-operative Housing Society in Kharadi staged a protest on Wednesday, alleging a delay in possession despite paying nearly 95% of the flat cost.

The buyers, who have been waiting beyond the promised July 2024 deadline, warned that if possession is not handed over within ten days, they may be forced to take extreme steps, including self-harm.

“We have invested our life savings, yet we are left without homes and burdened with EMIs and rent,” said one of the protesters, pointing to repeated complaints made to MahaRERA and the police that have not resulted in concrete action.

MLA Bapusaheb Pathare visited the protest site and interacted with the residents. He also spoke to senior officials at Kharadi police station, urging immediate intervention. Calling the delay “serious and unacceptable”, Pathare assured the aggrieved buyers that he would follow up on the matter to ensure they get possession.

Society chairman Kishorkumar Indure alleged that developers Armaan Kothari and Siddhant Kothari had collected nearly 95% of the payment from buyers while promising possession by July 2024. “Around 130 buyers have paid approximately ₹1.4 crore each, taking the total amount to over ₹200 crore, but the project remains incomplete,” he said.

Society secretary Dr Supriya Patil said most buyers belong to middle-class families and are facing mounting financial and mental stress. “We are paying both EMIs and rent. Many residents are under severe pressure and have begun facing health issues. Despite repeated follow-ups, there has been no action,” she said.

Residents also alleged that the developer has mortgaged the project and raised loans of around ₹450 crore without completing construction or providing basic amenities. They expressed concern that the promoters might leave the country and urged authorities to take preventive measures.

“We are only demanding possession of our rightful homes. We will continue to fight until justice is delivered,” a protester said.

Women and senior citizens also joined the agitation, highlighting the emotional toll. The residents have urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to intervene and ensure swift action in the matter.
