Over 2,700 New MBBS Seats Added Nationwide; Maharashtra to Get 350 More
Mumbai, 4th September 2025: The second round of medical admissions beginning today will see over 2,700 additional MBBS seats made available across India, with 350 of these allocated to colleges in Maharashtra.
The increase comes as the National Medical Commission (NMC) approved seats in 18 newly sanctioned medical colleges this year. Apart from the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Andheri, deemed universities such as Bhartiya Vidyapeeth’s Pune and Sangli campuses have received approval to expand by 100 seats each, while Datta Meghe’s Nagpur and MGM’s Aurangabad campuses will add 50 seats each. In total, the 18 new colleges account for 1,200 additional seats after receiving approval from the NMC’s Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB).
In addition, 970 seats have been sanctioned in existing government medical colleges, and 550 more seats will be added in already established deemed universities. Among the nine deemed universities receiving increased intake, four are based in Maharashtra. Notably, government colleges in the state did not apply for additional seats, according to the NMC’s official list.
