Pune 11th Sept 2023: The latest data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has revealed that Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad record over 30% of the electric vehicles registered in Maharashtra. The data reveals that a total of 3,22,225 electric vehicles are registered in the state of which 95,000 are from Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.

This comes as a good sign for the district as the state government has already announced plans to set up an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Pune through a private firm. The city has been witnessing a significant rise in the number of electric vehicles registration over the last few years and the number is set to create a new record this year too as over 23,549 vehicles have been registered in Pune and 11,968 are registered in Pimpri Chinchwad till September this year.

The two cities also lead in the number of CNG vehicles registration in the state as around 32% of the total CNG vehicles registered in Maharashtra are from Pune. As the CNG prices have consistently increased in the last few years more people have started preferring electric vehicles over CNG. The civic body has also geared up to develop infrastructure for electric vehicle charging and an announcement was made recently by the Pune Municipal Corporation that it will set up 150 EV charging stations at 82 locations across the city.
