Pune, 10th November 2021: As many as 81,695 students have not availed of the benefits of the pre-matric scholarship scheme being implemented by the Department of Minority and Adult Education as they are taking advantage of school transfers and various other scholarships.

The pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme is implemented for meritorious students of classes I to X from economically weaker sections of the religious minority community. Students have to apply online for this. Scholarships are sanctioned only after verification at various levels like school, district, and state. The scholarship amount is directly deposited in the student’s bank account.

Once the scholarship is taken, the students have to fill up the renewal form every year. Some schools are up to 5th, 7th. Therefore, the majority of students have to change schools for further education. After enrolling in another school, the concerned students try to take advantage of it by applying for other scholarships. Students can avail themselves of any one scholarship at a time.

As a result, many students have refused to take advantage of pre-matric scholarships. These students are excluded from the minority scholarship process, said officials.
