Pahalgam Terror Attack: Former Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan Backs Government Action, Urges Inclusion in Decision-Making

Pune, 24th April 2025: Following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives—including five tourists from Maharashtra—former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has declared full support for any government action against terrorism, provided all parties are taken into confidence. Chavan emphasised the need for unity and transparency during this crisis, urging the government to involve opposition leaders in all critical decisions.
Chavan visited the family of Santosh Jagdale, one of the victims, offering condolences and reiterating the importance of government outreach to affected families. He called for immediate assistance to those impacted and advocated for special flights to bring stranded tourists back to Maharashtra.
The Pahalgam attack, which targeted tourists in Baisaran Valley on 22nd April, is the deadliest such incident in India since 2008. The Resistance Front, linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the mass shooting, which left over 20 injured and caused national outrage. The attack has prompted a strong response from the Indian government, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice and all political parties expressing solidarity with the government’s measures to combat terrorism.
Chavan stressed that the focus should remain on national unity and supporting victims, rather than political gains. He reiterated that the Congress party stands firmly behind any decisive action the government takes to ensure security and justice, as long as there is transparent communication and trust among all stakeholders.
