Pakistan Launches Drone, Missile Attacks on Indian Military Bases; S-400 System Foils Strikes

New Delhi, 8th May 2025: In a major escalation of hostilities, Pakistan has launched coordinated drone and missile attacks targeting Indian military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Rajasthan. India’s S-400 air defence system successfully intercepted and destroyed all incoming threats.
The Indian government has placed Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Rajasthan on high alert, imposing blackouts across border districts and cancelling all leave for essential personnel, including doctors, police, and medical staff.
Jammu, Pathankot Targeted with Suicide Drones
Pakistani suicide drones targeted Jammu Airport and the Pathankot Air Force Station. The Indian S-400 system intercepted all drones mid-air, preventing damage to critical infrastructure. A blackout was enforced in Jammu from 8 pm, while heavy shelling was reported in the RS Pura sector, where locals reported hearing multiple explosions.
Missile Attacks on Rajasthan Air Bases
Missile strikes were launched by Pakistan on three key air bases in Rajasthan: Nal (Bikaner), Uttarlai (Barmer), and Phalodi. These attacks were intercepted in the air by India’s missile defence systems. Amid the strike, sirens blared and explosions were heard in Jaisalmer, though no casualties or structural damage have been officially confirmed.
High Alert and Civilian Measures in Border States
As a precautionary measure, blackouts were ordered in Jodhpur, Barmer, and Jaisalmer, and marketplaces in Sri Ganganagar were shut by 7 pm. Public movement has been restricted around sensitive installations, including Jawai Dam in Pali. Emergency protocols have been activated, and district administrations have issued public safety advisories.
Pakistan’s Military Buildup Near the Border
Sources indicate that Pakistan has deployed additional F-16s, JF-17s, and other aircraft near the Rajasthan border. Indian surveillance confirms heightened Pakistani military activity, suggesting a possible prolonged confrontation.
Background: Retaliation After Operation Sindoor
These attacks come in response to India’s airstrike under Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, that left 26 civilians dead.
India Prepared for Escalation, Says Defence Ministry
The Indian government said it remains committed to protecting its sovereignty and citizens. It confirmed that all military bases remain operational and secure, and any further aggression will be met with “firm and proportionate retaliation.”
