New Delhi, January 5, 2021: Supreme Court in Pakistan today ordered the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to reconstruct Shri Paramahansa Ji Maharaj’s shrine in two weeks at Krishna Dwara temple at Teri village in Karak district. The Chief Justice directed the government to recover money from those who were responsible for the demolition.

On December 30, a mob led by members of the fundamentalist Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Party (Fazl ur Rehman Group) ransacked the temple and set fire to protest the expansion work of the shrine. There was also the samadhi of a Hindu religious leader, Shri Paramhans Ji Maharaj. More than 350 people are named in the FIR that followed. So far, 100 people were arrested in the case.

The Chief Justice took action after the Lawyer Ramesh Kumar informed the temple’s demolition during their meeting in Karachi last week. After which, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the Aukaf department were instructed to start work immediately and submit a progress report in two weeks.

The attack on the temple has been strongly condemned by human rights activists and leaders of the minority Hindu community. India has also expressed resentment over the temple’s demolition and demanded strict action against those responsible for the incident
