Mumbai, 5th January 2021: Maharashtra Energy Minister Dr Nitin Raut today directed that the fly ash produced from the thermal plant should be used for making cement and bricks for commercial use. The meeting was attended by Sanjay Khandare, Chairman and Managing Director of Mahagenco (Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited) and other officials.

“Due to the quality of the coal coming into the thermal power plant, a large amount of fraction is produced. As a result, a large number of thermal power companies have to bear the financial burden. Letters should be sent to the coal companies to reduce this financial burden and get compensation from an environmental point of view. A copy should be given to the Maharashtra Environmental Pollution Control Board (MPCB)”, Dr Raut instructed.

He added, “In order to maximise the commercial use of the part, it should be made available to the cement companies by discussing with them the importance of how it is beneficial to them, recognising their need. Also, Mahagenco should make bricks from its own parts and make them available in the market. Concerned companies should be made aware of the importance of how ash is more beneficial than mulch in road construction. A special officer should be appointed to look into the matter from a business perspective.”

“Study how Tata solar-powered lamps in Delhi can be beneficial if you have them. Study whether it is possible to cultivate the space in a vertical solar project,” said Dr Raut. He also instructed to use the site of the closed thermal power plant for the solar project and make a road map for it.
