Take Effective Measures To Reduce Road Accidents: District Collector Deshmukh

Pune, 5th January 2021: In order to reduce the number of accidents in the district, the officials of the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Police and Public Works Department (PWD) should jointly inspect accident-prone areas and implement effective measures, these instructions were given by the District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh.

District level road safety committee meeting was held today. It was chaired by District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh. Regional Transport Officer Dr Ajit Shinde, Superintendent of Police (Highways) Sanjay Jadhav, Additional Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Milind Mohite, District Civil Surgeon Dr Ashok Nandapurkar, DCP (traffic) Rahul Shrirame of Pune city police, as well as committee members were present.

Collector Dr Deshmukh said, “Road Safety Week is celebrated every year. The central government has directed to celebrate ‘Road Safety Month’ this year. The campaign will be organised from January 18 to February 17, 2021. For the successful implementation of this campaign, the concerned departments, organisations and associations should organise various public awareness programs with the necessary precautions against the backdrop of coronavirus pandemic. Awareness about road safety should be spread through media and social media to maintain the precautions, and the activities should be continued throughout the year.”

He further said that information on late Balasaheb Thackeray Road Accident Insurance Scheme should be disseminated to all citizens. Medical professionals should provide immediate medical treatment to persons involved in road accidents under this scheme.

Dr Ajit Shinde, Regional Transport Officer, informed about the various initiatives taken by the Department of Transport in the year 2020. He also informed about the implementation done by ‘e-challan’.

SP Sanjay Jadhav said that having an accident and losing one’s life in an accident is a big blow to one’s family. Young people are more likely to die in accidents. In order to reduce the number of accidents, it is necessary to disseminate information on road safety rules and guidelines to more and more citizens. At the same time, everyone should avoid mistakes while driving.
