Pakistani Intelligence Posing as Indian Officials to Target Journalists During ‘Operation Sindoor’
New Delhi, 12th May 2025: Intelligence agencies have issued a high-level alert warning against suspicious phone calls originating from the Indian WhatsApp number +91 7340921702, reportedly being used by Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). These operatives are allegedly impersonating Indian defence officials to contact journalists and civilians.
According to sources, the primary objective of these calls is to extract sensitive information related to Operation Sindoor, the ongoing multi-dimensional military operation targeting terror infrastructure across the western border.
The Ministry of Defence has strongly urged members of the media and the general public to remain cautious and not to engage with or share any information with unknown callers claiming to represent Indian defence forces.
“This is a clear attempt to exploit the current situation and gather intelligence through deceptive means. We request everyone to exercise extreme caution and report any such contact immediately,” the Ministry of Defence stated.

Do not respond to or engage with unknown numbers claiming to be from the Indian Armed Forces.
Verify credentials through official communication channels only.
Immediately report any suspicious contact to local authorities or cybercrime cells.
As Operation Sindoor continues, authorities emphasize that maintaining operational secrecy and public vigilance is critical to national security.
