Passengers Frustrated by Consistent Delays on SpiceJet’s Pune-Dubai Route
Pune, 31st March 2023: Passengers flying with SpiceJet from Pune to Dubai and back have faced significant delays, causing frustration and chaos. On March 29, the scheduled departure time for the SG-51 flight from Pune to Dubai with over 100 passengers was changed to 11:55 am.
However, the passengers became agitated when the plane was delayed for more than four hours. The same issue occurred on March 30 when the Pune to Dubai flight, which was scheduled to depart at 7:55 am, did not take off until around 1:30 pm, causing a delay of more than five hours.
In response to the ongoing delays, industrialist Sudhir Mehta tweeted his concerns, stating that SpiceJet had been causing significant inconvenience to passengers by delaying the Pune to Dubai flight almost every day for the past few months. He added that if the airline did not improve, it would be better to award the prized slot to another carrier.
SpiceJet has cited “operational reasons” for the delays, but this has not satisfied the affected passengers. The consistency in the delays from Pune to Dubai suggests that the airline has developed a habit of not following schedules, leaving passengers stranded at the airport in despair.
Under the rules governing airline passenger rights, passengers are entitled to compensation for flight delays, cancellations, refused boarding, and lost or damaged baggage. However, passengers claim that SpiceJet has ignored them on all fronts. If a flight is anticipated to be delayed by more than six hours, the airline must notify passengers at least 24 hours in advance and offer an alternative flight or a complete refund of the fare. Additionally, if a passenger checks in on time but the carrier expects a delay of two to four hours, the airline must provide meals and refreshments.
Despite the ongoing delays on the Pune to Dubai route, SpiceJet management has failed to take adequate measures to alleviate the suffering of its passengers. The airline’s poor performance has sparked concerns among passengers and industry insiders, with some calling for a review of the airline’s operations.
