PCMC Demolishes 43 Homes in Wakad–Tathawade, Clears 38,750 Sq. Ft. for Road Expansion
Pimpri, 11th September 2025: In a major anti-encroachment operation, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Thursday demolished 43 unauthorized homes and brick structures obstructing an 18-metre-wide development plan (DP) road in the Wakad–Tathawade area. The drive freed 38,750 sq. ft. of land, enabling long-delayed road expansion aimed at easing traffic congestion.
The encroachments stood on Survey No. 124/1 in Kalakhadak, Wakad, next to an approved slum rehabilitation project. The stretch of DP road—measuring 200 metres in length and 18 metres in width—connects Bhumkar Chowk, Wakad, to the Tathawade boundary, but had remained blocked by hutments.
The joint drive was executed under the supervision of PCMC Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil, and City Engineer Makrand Nikam. On the ground, the action was led by Deputy Commissioner (Slum Rehabilitation) Anna Bodade and Assistant Commissioner (Encroachment HQ) Atul Patil, supported by Executive Engineers Sunil Shinde and Rajendra Shinde.
Departments involved included the D Ward Office, Slum Rehabilitation, Urban Planning, Electrical, Encroachment, and Fire Brigade, assisted by the Maharashtra Security Force. The demolition team deployed 4 poclain machines, 4 JCBs, 6 dumpers, and 20 labourers.
Speaking about the action, PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh said, “Strict measures are being taken against unauthorized constructions that obstruct PCMC’s development projects and public amenities. Encroachments affecting the 18-metre road in Wakad–Tathawade have been cleared, and roadwork will begin immediately. This will help reduce traffic congestion in the area.”
