PCMC earns over Rs 7 lakh as fine for no masks and spitting within two months

Pimpri, June 26, 2020: In the last two months, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Health Department has collected a fine of over Rs 7 lakhs from people for spitting and not wearing masks in public.

The Municipal Corporation has been strictly taking action against these defaulters in order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Those found spitting are charged a fine of Rs 150, while those without masks have to pay Rs 500 as fine.

In the span of the last two months, the PCMC has charged 1,848 defaulters for spitting in public, collecting a fine of Rs 2,77,200. At the same time, 896 defaulters who were not wearing masks in public have paid a total fine of Rs 4,57,500. Thus, the PCMC has earned a total fine of Rs 7,34,700.

Considering the spread of COVID-19 in the city, the PCMC has appealed to the public to avoid spitting and strictly wear a mask when outside. The Corporation has started strict action against defaulters from April 23 onward.

On Wednesday, the Corporation conducted an operation, in which, 166 people were charged a total fine of Rs 24,900 for spitting in public, while 176 paid a total fine of Rs 88,000 for not wearing a mask.
