PCMC residents paid Rs 2,52,300 for spitting in public places
Pimpri, June 24, 2020: Spitting in public places is a punishable offence. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Sanitary Inspectors have fined more than 1,600 people and collected a total fine of Rs 2,52,300 in the last two months, PCMC said.
According to PCMC officials, the decision to crack down on people found spitting in public places started in the backdrop of Coronavirus epidemic. This is being to contain the spread of the highly contagious disease COVID19.
Pune Divisional Commissioner Dr Deepak Mhaisekar has issued an instruction to PCMC to impose fine of Rs 500 or 1000 on people found spitting in public places. If they do not follow the guidelines, then action will be taken against them under relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act.
According to PCMC, the total number of Coronavirus positive patients has reached 2148 out of which 1279 have been cured while 37 have died. 832 active patients are still undergoing treatment. There are 71 non-PCMC residents currently admitted in YCM hospital in Pimpri. Till now 26 non-PCMC residents have died while 133 have been cured. Out of total active cases, there are 695 Asymptomatic Positive patients, 99 are Symptomatic Positive Patients and 37 Critical Patients.
