PCMC Takes First Place, PMC Ranks Third in Maharashtra’s ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan 3.0

Pune, 6th June 2023: The Department of Environment and Climate Change in Maharashtra celebrated World Environment Day by organizing a prestigious event at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Nariman Point. The event aimed to recognize the invaluable contributions of environmental activists and conservationists. Notably, awards were presented to local self-government bodies for their outstanding performance in the esteemed ‘Mazi Vasundhara Abhiyan 3.0’ initiative.

Among the honored recipients were the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The PCMC secured the top position, while the PMC achieved an impressive third place in the category of cities with a population exceeding 10 lakhs within the Amrit group.

Launched on October 2, 2020, by the Department of Environment and Climate Change, the ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyaan 3.0’ focuses on harnessing the power of the five elements of nature to improve the environment across local bodies throughout Maharashtra.

The event witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, State Excise Minister Shambhuraj Desai, MLAs Sanjay Gaikwad and Rajendra Raut, Principal Secretary of the Environment and Climate Change Department Praveen Darade, High Commissioner of Switzerland Martin Mayer, and Abasaheb Jarhad, among others.
