Talegaon Dabhade, 10th May 2024: A man was seen wandering suspiciously in a colony when a Police Sub Inspector approached him and inquired about his activities. Without warning, the man opened fire and fled the scene with his accomplice. It was later revealed that the man had been planning to commit a burglary in a house within that colony. This incident occurred on Thursday, May 9th, at Mascarenhas Colony near Limb Phata in Talegaon Dabhade.

Police Sub Inspector Sham Rajaram Shinde, 57 years old and a resident of Talegaon, has filed a complaint at the Talegaon Dabhade Police Station. Police have registered a case against two unknown men, both approximately 40 years of age.

According to the information provided by ACP (Dehu Road Division) Devidas Ghevare, on Thursday, while checking the progress of his house’s construction, PSI Shinde noticed a masked man observing a locked bungalow.

He approached the man and inquired, “Who are you? Why are you here? Whom are you meeting here?” Enraged by the questioning, the accused responded indecently, saying, “You mind your own business; I am a different kind of man.” Undeterred, PSI Shinde attempted to further question the man, who then revealed a pistol in his pocket. Startled, PSI Shinde shouted, “Thieves! Thieves!” to alert other residents of the colony.

In response to the commotion, one of the thieves emerged from the bungalow by jumping over a wall, while other residents gathered. The thieves, upon hearing the commotion, fired a shot into the ground and hastily fled on a speeding two-wheeler towards Mumbai via the old Mumbai-Pune highway. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify the thieves.

The thieves gained entry into the closed bungalow in the colony by cutting the lock of the safety door with a tool. They then used a cutter to break the latch of the main door and entered the premises. However, their attempted theft was thwarted.

Talegaon Dabhade police have registered a case against the two accused under IPC Sections 455 (house-trespass), 380 (Theft), 511 (Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), as well as relevant sections of the Arms Act of 1959 and Maharashtra Police Act of 1951.
