Pimpri-Chinchwad Citizens Lose Over Rs 40 Lakh in Work-from-Home and Mobile Scams

Pimpri Chinchwad, 29th September 2025: Pimpri-Chinchwad has witnessed a spate of cybercrime incidents, with citizens being duped of more than ₹40 lakh in separate cases registered at Pimpri and MIDC Bhosari police stations. The frauds involved false promises of ‘work from home’ jobs and mobile phone hacking.

Work-from-Home Scam in Pimpri
A 34-year-old man from Pimpri lodged a complaint after being cheated of ₹22.64 lakh. According to police, the accused woman contacted him via Telegram, luring him with a work-from-home opportunity. She allegedly took the money as a ‘deposit’ but failed to provide any work or return the amount. Pimpri police have registered a case and are investigating.

Moshi Citizen Cheated of ₹9 Lakh
In another case, a 48-year-old man from Moshi was duped of ₹9.06 lakh between May 3 and June 1, 2024. The complainant was added to a Telegram group, asked to create accounts, and made to perform rating and advertisement tasks. The fraudsters promised high returns but kept demanding deposits in multiple bank accounts. A case has been registered at MIDC Bhosari police station against unidentified persons.

Businessman’s Mobile Hacked
In a third incident, a businessman from Moshi lost ₹9.34 lakh after fraudsters hacked his mobile phone. Police said the accused transferred ₹50,000 from one of his bank accounts and ₹8.84 lakh from another, siphoning off a total of ₹9.34 lakh to other accounts. The victim, a 41-year-old man, filed a complaint at MIDC Bhosari police station.

Police have appealed to citizens to remain vigilant against online frauds, avoid sharing personal information with unknown contacts, and verify any job offers before transferring money. Investigations in all three cases are underway.
