Pimpri Chinchwad emerges 24th in Swachh Sarvekshan ranking, takes leap from last year’s 52nd place

Pimpri, August 21, 2020: Pimpri Chinchwad has secured 24th place in the Swachh Sarvekshan ranking by the Central Government this year. Swachh Sarvekshan has been carried out by the Central Government since 2016, and results for 2019-2020 were declared on Thursday afternoon. The city has emerged seventh in the state.

In the first year in 2016, when 73 cities had participated, Pimpri Chinchwad had emerged ninth amongst the cleanest cities, the place which has been falling since. However, this year, at the 24th place, the city has risen from last year’s 52nd place. This year, a total of 4,242 cities had participated in the Swachh Sarvekshan.

The ranking is given with regard to the city’s performance in four criteria, progress in services, direct observation, feedback of the citizens and certifications. The city was scored out of a total of 5,000 points this time.

Amongst services, the city was scored for the waste collection and transport, its treatment and disposal methods, awareness programmes, new initiatives, etc. Direct observation was conducted to check the cleanliness in residential and commercial areas, public restrooms, vegetable markets, railway and bus stations and stops, slum areas, beautification of the city, and so on. The feedback of citizens was sought over various aspects like awareness regarding Swachh Sarvekshan, satisfaction with the cleanliness standards, awareness about waste collection and disposal, etc.
