Pimpri, 12th June 2025: In a significant move aimed at streamlining urban transport, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has approved 123 autorickshaw stands within the Pimpri Chinchwad transport limits, following a joint meeting and a fresh survey conducted by officials from the Transport Department, Municipal Corporation, and rickshaw associations.

The decision was finalized in a coordination meeting chaired by the Motor Vehicle Inspector and attended by representatives of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Alandi Municipal Council, Dehuroad Cantonment Board, and rickshaw unions.

In addition to the approved stands, strict instructions have been issued to remove unauthorized rickshaw stops across the jurisdiction of PCMC, Alandi, and Dehuroad. The concerned departments have also been directed to initiate legal action to remove any encroachments at such locations.

Speaking through an official press release, Sandesh Chavan, Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Pimpri Chinchwad, stated: “If there is a demand for autorickshaw stands at additional locations within the Pimpri Chinchwad region, citizens, rickshaw associations, and respective departments can submit proposals to our office within the next 15 days. After a joint survey, appropriate action will be taken to approve such stops as per rules.”

The move is expected to provide better regulation of autorickshaw operations, ease commuter movement, and reduce traffic congestion caused by unregulated stands in the city.

Residents and rickshaw drivers are encouraged to submit applications with valid justifications for new stops, ensuring that the public transport ecosystem continues to evolve in a structured and legal manner.
