According to Tanaji Narale, Assistant Commissioner of the Social Development Department, approximately four to five lakh visitors attended the fair, indulging in a variety of food, shopping, and cultural programs. The participating self-help groups generated an impressive turnover of ₹1 to ₹1.25 crore, highlighting the economic impact of the event.
Held at the PWD Ground in Sangvi from 21st February to 24th February, the Pavanathadi Jatra aimed to provide a marketplace for goods produced by women’s self-help groups, enhance marketing and sales skills among women, and preserve Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage. The event featured a total of 756 stalls, including 386 for self-help group products, 217 for Maharashtrian vegetarian cuisine, 130 for non-vegetarian food, five reserved for disabled entrepreneurs, 14 for social organizations, and four for transgender self-help groups.
In a special recognition, selected women’s self-help groups, including Nanashree Women’s Self-Help Group, Bright Women’s Self-Help Group, Naveen Parivartan Women’s Self-Help Group, Ashwini Swayamsiddha Women’s Self-Help Group, KGM Women’s Self-Help Group, and Shivsangmeshwar Women’s Self-Help Group, were honored for their participation through a lottery-based selection process.
The event also highlighted the Sakshamna Project, a joint initiative by PCMC and Tata Community Initiatives Trust, which focuses on skill development, financial literacy, and business opportunities for 5,000 women’s self-help groups. Currently, 2,556 groups are benefiting from this initiative, and an information booth at the fair helped expand its reach.
A dedicated stall was also set up to promote the Maharashtra Government’s Pink E-Rickshaw Scheme, aimed at providing e-rickshaws to women through the Women and Child Welfare Department. Many attendees visited the stall to learn about the scheme and its benefits.
The event concluded with a grand cultural performance titled Jagatsundari, featuring a blend of dance, drama, and music, drawing a large audience. At the closing ceremony, more than 750 participating women’s self-help groups, along with various PCMC departments that contributed to the event’s success, were honored with certificates of appreciation.
