Pimpri-Chinchwad: PCMC Sets May 15 Deadline For Road Excavation; Criminal Charges For Violators
Pimpri, 10th April 2025: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has issued a strict directive allowing road excavation works only until 15th May 2025, warning that any unauthorized digging beyond the deadline will invite criminal action. The directive applies to all government and semi-government agencies, including departments handling water supply, civil works, fiber networking, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL).
Frequent road digging across Pimpri-Chinchwad for pipeline installations and utility repairs—followed by substandard patchwork—has made commuting hazardous and increased the risk of accidents. To address this, the civic body has ordered that all ongoing works related to water pipelines, sewage lines, stormwater drains, internet and utility cables, MNGL gas lines, and electricity cables on major and high-traffic roads must be completed before the deadline.
City Engineer Makarand Nikam stated, “All roads and footpaths must be repaired and resurfaced before the monsoon begins. No excavation work will be permitted during the rainy season except for emergency purposes, and even then, strict conditions will apply. Any unauthorized excavation will result in penalties and the filing of criminal charges.”
The directive comes after last year’s monsoon, during which 7,405 potholes were recorded across the city. While 7,227 have since been repaired and resurfaced with asphalt, 178 potholes remain across the eight regional wards. The civic construction department has instructed immediate repairs and asphalting of these remaining damaged areas.
With the 15th May deadline fast approaching, authorities have urged all agencies to accelerate their infrastructure work and avoid unnecessary delays that could lead to legal consequences.
