Pimpri Chinchwad: Pedestrian Safety Concerns Rise as Commuters Illegally Cross BRTS Route at Morwadi Chowk

Pimpri, 17th November 2023: An alarming trend of pedestrians dangerously walking on the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) route at Morwadi Chowk (Finolex Chowk) after disembarking from buses has raised serious safety concerns. The area, housing metro stations, private classes, shops, municipal offices, hotels, and other offices, witnesses a high volume of pedestrian traffic.

Despite designated pedestrian paths provided for commuters to safely reach the service road after alighting from buses at the BRTS stop, some individuals opt to traverse the BRTS route instead. This behaviour not only violates safety protocols but also poses a significant risk of accidents, especially when buses are in transit.

Authorities have expressed concern over the potential for accidents, emphasizing the need for citizens to adhere to designated pedestrian paths and follow proper safety protocols. The BRTS route is a critical transit corridor, and the illegal crossing poses a risk not only to pedestrians but also to bus drivers who may need to abruptly stop to avoid accidents.
