Wakad, 27th June 2025: The Pune District Court has granted seven days of police custody to three individuals re-arrested in connection with the attempted murder case in Wakad, where the victim’s fist was completely severed with a koyta. Initially, the court had ordered the release of the accused due to procedural irregularities during the arrest. However, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police have now re-arrested the trio following the correct legal procedure, and police custody has been granted.

The incident occurred on 23rd June, when the complainant’s son, Rahul Gaikwad, was attacked by three individuals. They allegedly attempted to strike his head with a koyta but missed, instead hitting his wrist, resulting in his fist being severed. A case was subsequently registered with the Wakad Police.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2), Vishal Gaikwad, the Detection Branch (DB) of Wakad Police arrested the suspects, Rohan Nimaj (18), Prashant Sakat (24), and Shubham Sunil Pawar (20), all residents of Thergaon, on the night of 23rd June at around 11:50 PM. The following day, they were produced in court, and police custody was initially granted. However, the defense lawyer argued that the arrest was unlawful, citing Section 47 of the BNSS, stating that the accused were neither arrested with a warrant nor informed of their rights, including bail and the grounds for arrest.

Following this, under the guidance of senior police officials, the suspects were re-arrested on Thursday afternoon in accordance with proper legal procedures. They were again presented in court, which then granted police custody until 29th June. Wakad Police are continuing their investigation.
