Pimpri-Chinchwad: Purple Ribbon Campaign Launched to Combat Domestic Violence and Ensure Women’s Safety

Alandi, 27th November 2024: In a significant step towards addressing domestic violence and improving women’s safety, the Purple Ribbon Campaign under the initiative of Damini Sakhi was inaugurated at the Alandi Police Station on September 25, 2024. This collaborative initiative brings together various stakeholders, including the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate,District Legal Services Authority (DLSA),Women and Child Development Department (WCD), State Women’s Commission,Alandi Devasthan, Alandi Municipal Council, Hope for the Children Foundation, and Alleima.

The campaign seeks to foster a safer environment for women through enhanced awareness, legal support, and community-driven efforts. Speaking at the launch, officials stressed that women’s safety is not the responsibility of law enforcement alone but requires collective action from community leaders and social activists. The event highlighted the importance of preventive measures and collaboration between the police and the community.

The Damini Sakhi Campaign focuses on three main pillars: Focusing on Prevention, Training, and Awareness, the Damini Sakhi Campaign featuresseveral initiatives.
Damini Pathak Safety Squad: A dedicated team to prevent harassment and violence against women.
Poster Campaign: Raising awareness about women’s safety and legal rights.
CCTV Installation: Enhancing surveillance in vulnerable areas.
Self-Defense Training: Empowering women with essential self-defense skills.
Counseling Support: Providing resources for emotional support and redressal.
The District Legal Services Authority has pledged comprehensive legal assistance to women, ensuring they are informed about their rights and equipped to protect themselves in challenging situations.

The launch event was attended by several dignitaries, including Senior Police Inspector Narke of Alandi Police Station, Sonal Patil, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, and Adv. Umap from Alandi Temple. Also present were Dr. Caroline de Valter, Founder of Hope for the Children Foundation, and Shakhil Shaikh, Chief Program Officer. Other key participants included Param Anand, officers from Alandi Police Station.

The campaign also aligns with the Purple Ribbon Campaign, an initiative aimed at eliminating violence against women. By creating a strong network of support and awareness, the Damini Sakhi Campaign aspires to empower women, providing them with legal protection and fostering a secure community.
