Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Police Issue 4 Lakh Challans in 6 Months, Collect Rs 40.83 Crore in Fines

Pimpri Chinchwad, 14th July 2026: In a major enforcement drive aimed at improving road discipline and safety, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police registered a staggering 4,01,787 cases of traffic violations in the first six months of 2026, collecting over ₹40.83 crore in fines.

The massive crackdown, conducted between January 1, 2026, and June 30, 2026, was carried out under the directives of Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, with guidance from Joint Police Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar and Additional Police Commissioner Sarang Awad. According to the official press note released by the Traffic Branch on July 14, 2026, a total fine of ₹40,83,29,900 was levied across various offence categories during this six-month period.

Detailed Breakdown of Traffic Violations and Fines

In terms of sheer volume, towing actions (typically targeting vehicles parked in no-parking zones) recorded the highest number of cases. The traffic department took action against 66,223 vehicles, levying a total of ₹3,52,95,500 in fines. Signal jumping was another widespread hazard across the twin cities, with 54,338 cases registered, resulting in ₹4,36,32,500 in penalties.

The traffic police also cracked down heavily on heavy and overweight vehicles violating transport and entry norms. These operations resulted in 48,270 registered cases and brought in the highest monetary share of fines at ₹6,50,43,000. Furthermore, actions against motorists causing obstruction to traffic resulted in 43,567 cases and a fine collection of ₹4,59,52,500.

Two-wheeler riders faced stringent action as well. The traffic department registered 40,419 cases of triple riding, collecting ₹4,12,52,000 in fines. Meanwhile, riding without a helmet remained a major safety concern, leading to 30,825 registered cases and a total penalty of ₹3,07,79,000.

Illegal vehicle modifications and aesthetic alterations were also closely monitored. A total of 38,412 cases were registered against vehicles with illegal or fancy number plates, leading to ₹3,18,90,000 in fines. The use of tinted or black glass on car windows led to 18,174 cases and a total fine of ₹2,21,42,000, while 7,206 motorists were penalised a total of ₹72,03,000 for using modified silencers that cause noise pollution.

Commercial transport and public transit vehicle operators were also heavily monitored. The traffic department registered 18,486 cases against auto-rickshaws, collecting ₹1,71,03,750 in fines, and 17,574 cases against buses, imposing ₹2,17,58,650 in penalties.

Finally, the police registered 12,334 cases against motorists for using mobile phones while driving, resulting in ₹1,88,08,000 in fines. Serious safety violations such as driving without a license resulted in 5,959 cases, bringing in ₹2,74,70,000 in penalties.

DCP Traffic Urges Citizens to Use ‘Traffic Buddy’ WhatsApp Bot

Commenting on the extensive drive, Vikrant Deshmukh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Traffic Branch, Pimpri-Chinchwad, issued a strong appeal to the public to comply with traffic laws.

“We appeal to all citizens residing in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissionerate jurisdiction to strictly adhere to traffic rules. Doing so will help them avoid heavy punitive fines and potential legal or court proceedings,” said DCP Vikrant Deshmukh.

He further added, “To make reporting of traffic-related issues seamless, we urge citizens to actively use our ‘Traffic Buddy’ WhatsApp Chat Bot at 8788649885. This platform is designed to resolve traffic congestion, facilitate traffic regulation, and address other grievances on the road. Citizen participation is crucial for making our city’s roads safer and smoother.”

The Traffic Police emphasized that the primary objective of this relentless enforcement drive is not just to collect fines, but to foster a culture of voluntary traffic discipline and reduce road accidents in the region.
