Pimpri Chinchwad: Two Policemen Among 8 Booked For Extorting Rs 5 Lakh From College Student After Threatening To Frame Him In Drugs Case

Pimpri Chinchwad, 15th February 2024: The Dehu Road Police Station finds itself embroiled in a serious integrity crisis as two police personnel, Police Naik Hemant Gaikwad and Constable Sachin Shejal, stand accused of intimidating a college student with a fabricated ganja (marijuana) case and extorting Rs 4.98 lakh from him.
Following a complaint from the 19-year-old student, an FIR has been registered against the accused policemen, along with Anil Ramesh Chaudhary (19), Aman Sheikh, Hussain Iliyas Dange (19), Mohammad Ahmed Mirza (19), Shankar Gorde, and Munnaswamy. Notably, four of the accused – Chaudhary, Sheikh, Dange, and Mirza – have been arrested.
According to the police report, the nefarious plot to extort money from the student, hailing from Jharkhand and studying in a college near Kiwale, was hatched by the accused policemen and other individuals, including students who share common ‘friends’ with the complainant. On February 10, at 12:15 pm, the student was forcibly taken from a cafe in Kiwale to Maya’s Lounge near Gahunje Stadium. The accused placed a ganja-like substance in the victim’s pocket, and during a subsequent search, the accused policemen seized it. The student was then taken to the Dehu Road Police Station, where he was informed about the impending registration of a case against him and the looming threat of imprisonment. The accused demanded Rs 20 lakh to ‘settle the case’.
Under immense pressure and fearing adverse consequences from the police and others, the victim made a payment of Rs 4 lakh 98 thousand through Google Pay and Net Banking to the accused persons. The accused released him on the evening of February 11.
Subsequently, he filed a complaint with the Talegaon Dabhade police station on the next day, which was later transferred to the Dehu Road police station for further investigation.
While four individuals have been arrested, the accused police personnel are yet to face legal consequences.
ACP Mugut Patil of Dehu Road Division is leading the ongoing investigation.
