Pimpri Chinchwad: While Family Rushes to Doctor, Neighbor Steals Gold Worth Rs 6.29 Lakh

Rahatani, 17th December 2024: A woman was arrested by Kalewadi police for stealing jewelry worth ₹6.29 lakh from her neighbor’s house after entering through an open door.

The arrested accused has been identified as Sonali Nilesh Ohol (34), a resident of Rahatani, Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune district. The theft was reported by Akash Santosh Achari (30), who lodged a complaint at Kalewadi Police Station.

According to police, on December 16, Achari had to rush his ailing son to the doctor and, in the commotion, forgot to close the door of his house. Seizing this opportunity, Sonali Ohol entered the residence and stole gold and silver ornaments.

After receiving the complaint, the police took Ohol into custody for questioning. During interrogation, she confessed to the theft. The police recovered the stolen jewelry from her residence, which included a 2.75 tola mangalsutra, a 3.75 tola mangalsutra with a pendant, a 1 tola gold choker, a half-tola gold bracelet, a 1.5-gram gold almond, two gold chains weighing 5.5 grams, 17 pairs of silver children’s bangles, a kardoda, and a set of gold and silver ornaments totaling 8.7 tola. The total value of the recovered jewelry amounts to ₹6.29 lakh.

The investigation and recovery operation were conducted by a team comprising Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Bahirat, Inspector Vikram Bansode, Sub-Inspector Sachin Chavan, and personnel Nagnath Suryavanshi, Pramod Kadam, Swapnil Khetle, Atish Jadhav, Ramesh Khedkar, Ajay Falle, and Prajakta Chougule.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner Vasant Pardeshi, DCP Vishal Gaikwad, and ACP Sunil Kurade.
