Pimpri, October 17, 2020: In a recent case, a 42-year-old labourer died due to heart attack but his dead body remained at home for nearly six hours as neighbours suspected that he was infected with Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The deceased has been identified as Prasad Kumar Gupta, a native of Bihar. He shifted to Pune for work and was living in Mahatma Phule Nagar in Pimpri along with his family. During the lockdown, he went to his village with his family and came back recently. He was living alone. Gupta died on October 15 due to heart attack but the neighbours suspected that he died due to Coronavirus. Therefore, no one shifted him to a hospital.

His dead body remained at home from 8 am to 2 pm. When social activist Jitendra Nanavare learnt about it, he shifted Gupta’s body to YCM hospital where a post-mortem was conducted. After taking consent of Gupta’s family, Nanavare cremated him on Friday.

The family members were unable to attend last rites due to poor financial condition. They took the ‘antim Darshan’ via WhatsApp video call.
