Plogathon: 57,227 Kg Of Waste Collected At 521 Places In Pune By 55,000 Residents Today

Pune, 24th October 2021: Today, the entire city of Pune witnessed a gathering of residents on the occasion of the Pune Mayor’s Plogathon, a campaign aimed at collecting garbage.

55,227 residents participated in this campaign which was implemented in 521 places of the city and 57,569 kg of plastic and other dry waste was collected.

‘Pune Mayor Plogathon 2021’ was organized under ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. Thousands jog in the morning to maintain good personal health. The event was organized by Mayor Murlidhar Mohol with the idea that joggers can get the satisfaction of doing something for the society if garbage collection is added to this jogging.

The initiative was launched by a bicycle rally. Mayor Mohol flagged off the bicycle rally at Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) main building in Shivajinagar. Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University Dr Nitin Karmalkar, Additional Commissioner Kunal Khemnar and Dnyaneshwar Molak and 350 cyclists participated. BJP state president Chandrakant Patil registered his participation along with Mayor Mohol at Karve statue in Kothrud and gave the slogan ‘Let’s keep Pune clean’.

“As a result of the large number of citizens of Pune who have taken initiative for city cleanliness in the Plogathon campaign, the city of Pune will definitely get the top ranking in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Swachh Survey 2022 competition. The participation of the people of Pune has shown how easily and in less time the constructive work can be done if the people of Pune come together. While the concept of plogathon is new globally, the people of Pune are thankful that the city of Pune has made the campaign a success twice. I sincerely thank the participants from Pune”, said Mayor Mohol.

A total of 35 thousand 216 citizens under 15 ward offices of the city participated in this plogathon and cleaned their residential areas. It was attended by people’s representatives, local corporatores, citizens, NGO representatives, self help group members. Various NGOs in the city carried out plogging activities at 25 places.

A similar plogathon drive was also conducted in the premises of 311 municipal and private schools in the city. A total of 16 thousand 412 teachers, students and parents participated in this. In addition, a total of 3,249 citizens, including members of clubs and citizens who come for daily walks, conducted plogathon drives in 44 parks in the city.

Mayor Mohol and others gathered in the Mutha riverside near the Bhide bridge area and took the oath of ‘Majhi Vasundhara’. MLA Mukta Tilak, PMC Standing Committee Chairman Hemant Rasane, Commissioner Vikram Kumar, SPPU Vice Chancellor Dr Karmalkar were present on the occasion.
